"Advancing the Success of Black Pharmacy Professionals"

The Black Pharmacy Professionals of Canada (BPPC) Mentorship Program is a six-month capacity-building program aimed at advancing the professional success of black pharmacy professionals within Canada's healthcare system. 


This pilot program marks a significant step toward fostering diversity, equity, and inclusion in the Canadian pharmacy landscape and reducing systemic barriers faced by black pharmacy professionals.  


We believe that mentorship matters. Our goal is to connect individuals who seek growth with experienced mentors who can guide them. Whether you are looking for guidance or ready to share your expertise, our mentorship program is here to help you succeed!


Program Objectives

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

Provide culturally responsive mentorship that promotes the professional development of black pharmacy professionals

   COMMUNITY

Create a lasting professional network of black pharmacy professionals  that fosters a sense of community and shared success

 LEADERSHIP

Strengthen leadership capacity of black pharmacy professionals to influence advocacy and 

lead effectively

Program Structure

The mentorship program is built around three core focus areas, providing a structured and impactful experience:


 Professional Development

The professional development of Black Pharmacy Professionals is built through a combination of workshops and one-on-one mentorship. The program offers a blend of professional development activities and practical mentoring, designed to equip participants with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to navigate the Canadian healthcare system and enhance their career prospects. Our structured resources help guide conversations.


Community 

The program aims to create a strong, lasting professional network for black Pharmacy professionals, fostering a sense of community and shared success within the field. By connecting participants with experienced mentors and peers through networking events and professional development activities, the program provides valuable opportunities for relationship-building and career advancement.


Leadership Development and Advocacy

The Program aims to strengthen the leadership skills and advocacy knowledge needed to navigate complex systems, engage in meaningful advocacy for equitable healthcare policies and take an active role in shaping the future of pharmacy practice.


Each month of the program will be centered around a key theme, guiding mentorship discussions and learning experiences.

Eligibility

Mentees

    Pharmacy Background – Actively working in pharmacy or a final-year student/recent graduate in Canada


    Time Commitment – Dedicate 2 hours per month for one-on-one meetings and workshops


    Growth Mindset – Passion for leadership, learning, and professional excellence

Mentors

Pharmacy Experience – At least 1 year of professional experience in the pharmacy field in Canada


Time Commitment – Dedicate 1 to 2 hours per month, including a mentor training session at program start


Leadership & Expertise – Demonstrated leadership capacity and interest in guiding others and sharing professional insights

How it Works

Step 1: Apply Online

Applications open: February 8, 2025

Applications close: March 2, 2025 


Step 2: Get Matched 

Mentees paired with mentors based on learning goals, expertise, and mentoring 
preferences for a personalized experience


Step 3: Start Your Journey 
Introduction session: March/April 2025
Mentors complete a short, foundational training to build key mentorship skills


Step 4: 
Connect regularly, learn and grow: April - September 2025
